Rima Viliamas-Boncha

For those of us fortunate enough to have known Rima Viliamas-Boncha, we can tell you with great certainty that she was a living example of what being part of the ultimate community is about. She was the type of friend, teammate and advocate we all hope to be. Through Ultimate, we become more than competitors, we become family. It is in light of this sense of unity that we pay tribute to her As a player, Rima had her hand in many aspects of the game– captaining college and club teams, coordinating series tournaments, running Cleveland summer league, organizing women’s clinics and playing competitively at the club level. She had all the throws, and as her competitors know, that included a threatening huck, lowrelease break and unstoppable high-release backhand. As an advocate of Ultimate, Rima could often be found smiling and playing somewhere across the country, be it with teams in Austin, Hawaii, Mars, Poultry Days, Gender Blender, New Years Fest and more. Beyond her contributions to Ultimate, what made Rima so special was the way she touched our lives. She was always there with a smile, whether it was a game, party or hanging out with friends. Her positive attitude made her uber fun to be around and the type of friend who showed us how to live life to the fullest. In June, at age 27, Rima was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. On July 7, she lived her dream of marrying Jeremiah Boncha in front of family and friends in Cleveland. Although she lost the fight to cancer after just four short months, we will continue to celebrate her life and will always remember her on and off the field.
