Dear Fighting Gobies,

Thank you for an awesome first week of practice. On Thursday we had 19. That's only two short of three whole lines, that's Division I team size and that's sweet. But more importantly than the numbers, every person on the field brought a national's quality attitude. Good work.

This weeks Weekly Wisdom is a few tips that cover most aspects of Ultimate. They are the little things that allow you to take your game to the next level. Everyone from rookies to 4th year vets should work on mastering these fundamentals. These tips cover the basics reviewed at practice last week.      

  • Keep your elbow away from your body
  • Step out
  • Get low
  • Snap the wrist (like bend and snap without the bending part)
  • Fake
  • Run through the disc
  • Use pancake form whenever possible
  • ATTACK the disc
  • When chasing a down a disc, put your head down and keep running 
  • Spring on your toes
  • Use your arms
  • Plant your pivot foot
  • Get low to change direction as quick as possible
  • Set-up your cut
  • Use what the defender is giving you
  • Move your feet, no arm lunging
  • Keep your hands low
Reading (the type you do on the pitch behind KSL)
  • Up calls help
  • Think about the difference between IOs and OIs
  • Watch discs
  • This paper may help. You will be tested on this at practice. You may use a calculator, but we will not be handing out an equation sheet. 
Defensive positioning
  • Which way are we forcing?
  • Take away the open side
  • Try beating your offender to the disc
